(13 May 2018) GAY RIGHTS ORGANISATIONS IN ALBANIA HOLD SEVENTH ANNUAL PRIDE EVENT
Members of the LGBT organizations in Albania on Sunday held their seventh annual pride event.
Scores of bikers and marchers with rainbow flags and posters walked and pedalled on bicycles along the capital Tirana's main Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard.
Xheni Karaj, one of the organizers, said that the march was intended to support the community and raise public awareness.
Karaj also called on local politicians to show more public support for the community.
Western diplomats, together with local officials and a Cabinet minister, also took part in the march.
No incidents were reported at the event, which was accompanied by police.
Albania passed an anti-discrimination law in 2009 but same-sex weddings have not been legalised.
Homophobia is still widespread across the country, but incidents of hate crime are low.
