You have probably seen planes; all with flat wings. But, have you seen anything flying with curly or round wings. Can a curled wing plane fly in the air?
“A twist on the paper plane that uses rings for wings!
Let’s do an experiment to find out what will happen if we replace the flat wings of a plane with hoops. Let’s see how a plane with hoops can fly in the air?
Functionality of Hoop Glider:-
· The paper hoops on the Hoop Glider act like wings.
· The shape of the hoops allows the air flowing around them to create lift, a force that pushes the glider up.
· The force you give by throwing it, called thrust and it allows the air to flow around the hoops, creating the lift for the glider.
Material list:-
1 - Drinking Straw
1- Sheet of paper (Colored or plain)
1 - Scissors
1- Tape(any)
1- Ruler(scale)
1- Pencil
Steps:-
1. Measure 1 inch from the long side along each of the short sides and draw a line across. Cut out the strip of paper.
2. Measure 5 inches from one corner along the long side. Then measure 1 inch from the short side and from the point you made earlier. Draw lines to connect the dots. Cut out the second strip so you have two strips of paper: one big and one small.
3. For each paper strip, curl the ends to make a hoop and tape together.
4. Tape the small hoop to one end of straw with an open side parallel with the straw opening. Tape the big hoop to the opposite end of the straw but lined up with the small hoop. Straw should be kept inside of the hoops at the time of taping, and make sure that both hoops are aligned properly.
5. Now, your Hoop Glider is ready to fly.
6.For launching the glider, hold the Hoop Glider in the middle of the straw with the small hoop in front. Throw it gently like a paper plane.
Safety precautions: - Remember that we do not endorse the throwing of these at pets, siblings, or co-workers, no matter how funny it is. We don't want harm to anyone.
