We were honored to have Ms. Salwa Saido, Member of Yazda Yazidi Survivors Network with us on the occasion of the Seventh Annual Commemoration of the #YazidiGenocide.
Ms. Salwa Saido shared her thoughts:
“The Yazidi community was disintegrated. Now we have completed the seventh year since the genocide and hundreds of thousands of Yazidis are still living in camps under tragic circumstances in which they experience the winter inundation, the extreme cold the burn-up of camps in the hot summer season, and the high temperature degrees under sufferance.”
“There isn’t a true representation of the Yazidis in state institutions, despite their being subject to genocide, because they are still suffering from exclusion and marginalization in various areas of life.”
“In the absence of a special tribunal for investigating these crimes and bringing offenders to justice; whereas Iraqi prisons are full of ISIS criminals, those must be prosecuted publicly in order to be punished.”
“Finally, I would like to remind you that I am today a displaced, and I live in a camp away from my mother. I lost my studies and my parents. But I hold out hope that the international community will compensate me and compensate the remaining victims to live with dignity.”
Speech transcripts are available in the English and Arabic languages on the Yazda website, featuring the chronic challenges and crucial actions that need to be urgently addressed and facilitated, for the return of Yazidis to Sinjar.
