On the 21st of May 1994, Martin Doherty helped to organise a function for the Sinn Féin P.O.W. Dept. which involved him doing security on The Widow Scallan's pub in Dublin's Pearse Street. Sometime during the function Martin sensed that something wasn't right, went out onto the street and was faced by a loyalist death squad. He challenged them, forcing them to abandon a partially primed 18lb bomb in the stairwell. They shot him through the heart and again as he fell dying to the ground. But for Martin's heroic action that night many lives would have been lost had the loyalist death squad succeeded in detonating the bomb.
This tribute to Oglach Martin Doherty was written by M.McNally and is performed here by Pádraig Mór from his album The Green & The Gold.
