Un-Boxing & Initial Impressions
• Immediate impression of the larger blade.
• Simple sageo wrap
• Tight ito wrap
• Basic boxing
• Lubricated blade
• Simple mate finished natural wood colored saya … though a bit of sword rattle
• Same fittings as Iron Tiger Forge Katana … nice finish on the tsuba.
• Very nice clay hamon timper line on the T-10 blade.
Cutting
• Various reviews on Ryujin custom swords. SBG offered custom fittings to a ready made O-Katana blade with bohi.
• The various reviews summarized show them to be good combos of aesthetics and cutting ability.
• The larger sword proved well balanced to swing at targets.
• Nice weight for a larger sword.
• Used gloves with the cotton ito wrap.
• The longer tsuka did for a change in technique about using the sword. For someone 6ft + it wasn’t that much of an adjustment.
• Nice to strike at targets from a greater distance.
• Despite the weight and length … did not cut through as much of the cardboard TV box as I thought it would.
Overall Impressions & Analysis - Ronin Katana Dojo Pro #14 – 30” Katana
• Draws comparisons between Iron Tiger Forge Katanas … same T-10 blades and same fittings.
• For its size it did not have an overly heavy blade … also had a bohi … lightened it.
• For the price … to customize the aesthetics and have a T-10 blade … great deal!!
• The saya while nice and simple … did rattle … prompts mass production oversize problem.
• T-10 blades … light, durable, almost same edge retention as 1095 while also having durable properties like spring steels (9260 & 5160).
