You can get some great deals on perennial plants in the clearance section, if you shop at Lowe's. Glance are discounted up to 50%, but look carefully at the ranges and associated discounts to make sure that you're getting the best deal. Also do not buy end of season annuals. I have made that mistake before and before you know it the plant is done for and finished blooming! I've picked up some really nice perennials, that need just a little TLC to bring them back to full vigor. Today I got an orchid and a bromeliad because I have been meaning to experiment with growing both of them, having never done it before. I know that both are epiphytes and require a bit of special care and knowledge about the plant, and I'm always game for learning more about new plants, the more exotic the better!
By the way, Lowe's always has a clearance section for that plants, but I have never observed this in Home Depot. In fact I was there today, and I saw a whole heap of discarded plants just lying in a shopping basket, made me sad! I wish they would discount and sell those plans just like Lowe's does.
