I went back to Haymarket in Sydney and checked out what happened to the iconic Sydney Entertainment Center. It's so different now and replaced with huge apartment blocks. Some of the old pubs around it are there but the venue is now the new convention center... totally rebuilt. I had some of my best memories at the Entertainment center seeing so many international acts. It was one of the main places that all the overseas bands played at.
Went through my attic and found some old ticket stubs and it remined me of those concerts, so I thought I would do a video on it. Even though it only was shut down a few years ago.
In Haymarket, Sydney, Australia, there was a multipurpose arena known as the Sydney Entertainment Centre. It was built to replace Sydney Stadium, which had been demolished in 1970 to make way for the Eastern Suburbs railway line, and it opened in May 1983. The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, which also managed Darling Harbour, owned and operated the center under a lease.
It was one of Sydney's larger concert venues and had the capacity to hold over 13,000 people as a traditional theater and 8,000 people as a theatre-in-the-round format (like for sporting events like Basketball and Boxing or even Dancing on Ice.
Before the Sydney Super Dome opened in 1999 at Sydney Olympic Park, it was Sydney's largest permanent concert venue. Each year, the venue hosted concerts, family shows, sporting events, and corporate events, with an average attendance of one million. It was torn down on January 1, 2016
Thanks for watching. Check out my other What Happened to videos on other iconic Australian rock music venues and concerts...
Cheers
