STORYLINE:
Fireworks lit up the night skies over Berlin on Friday as Germans welcomed the new year.
Security was tight for the celebrations, which came an hour after police in Munich warned of "serious, imminent threat" of an attack in that city.
In a statement posted on Facebook, they asked people to stay away from the main train station and a second station in the city's Pasing neighbourhood.
German news agency dpa reported that both train stations had been evacuated and that trains would no longer stop there.
