Ever since the first super long-form Budget Eats episode aired, viewers have been requesting that we do a week subsisting off food pantry box contents. We haven't done one—until now—because June didn't want to misrepresent the experience of the 37 million Americans who live with food insecurity on a daily basis, 11 million of whom are children, a statistic that’s remained largely unchanged from when June researched SNAP benefits (then known as food stamps) in high school over ten years ago.

On top of that, food pantry box contents vary widely from location to location, and there would be no accurate way for June to depict an "average" box. Watch June set out to cook a whole week's worth of meals for herself using a $15 fresh food box from FoodShare South Carolina along with some food pantry box staples she scavenged from the Delish test kitchen.
