Hey guys, my name is Jason Leung, I am a 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate. In today's video we are going to learn the 3 types of karate footwork I believe to be the most essential. This karate footwork can be applied to wkf kumite style, as well as more full contact styles of combat. The key when applying any sort of karate or sport karate techniques in mma is to be able to adjust and adapt. Obviously one cannot fight a full contact MMA fighter by tapping for points.
I do find however that the karate point style or WKF KUMITE karate footwork is very advantageous when being defensive or a counter fighter, no matter what the context. Again, this is not a perfect style of footwork but it can give the practitioner many benefits.
