I accidentally discovered this trick and hope that it helps you save some money. Cleaning your abrasive disks and belts will extend their life time and result in better sanding/grinding results thus saving you money and time. There are commercial products available to clean your abrasives and they range from $15-$20 (some even more). I use floor mats in my shop that are made from recycled rubber. In this video I experimented to find out how well this material works on various abrasives.
After some research I found that this method has been documented before using the rubber sole of old shoes and other materials. I highly recommend you experiment for yourselves and find something that can help you save money too!
