Hello and welcome to AF Crime Tidbits. Today, we're counting down the three most infamous cases of espionage in history.
Number 3: The Cambridge Five spy ring was a group of British citizens who passed secrets to the Soviet Union during World War II. The members included Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, and Anthony Blunt, who all infiltrated high-level positions in the British government.
Number 2: Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were American citizens who were convicted of passing atomic bomb secrets to the Soviet Union. They were executed in 1953, becoming the first American citizens to be sentenced to death for espionage during peacetime.
Number 1: Aldrich Ames was a CIA officer who was arrested and convicted of spying for the Soviet Union in 1994. He passed on classified information, including the identities of CIA agents, which resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people. Ames was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
