This was my first attempt at speedrunning CTR:NF on Classic mode. I didn't really check out any of the speedrun strats for this first run, and decided instead to get through the game as quickly as possible using what I already knew.
FAQ stuff about CTR:NF:
- Controls:
I use classic controls with D-pad. the control scheme you use is irrelevant, but D-pad should be used rather than analog in order to minimize dropped inputs or unintended inputs, especially during u-turns.
- "what characters are the best?"
Speed characters are best, but only in the hands of the best players. Being able to hold fire is the most important part of going fast in this game, so finding a character that you can control the best will be more beneficial than picking a character that's slightly faster but you can't control. Acceleration characters can yield similar results but are much more forgiving.
- u-turns:
Jump (R1 or L1), then press down+the direction you want to turn and Brake (Square), then let off the brake and go back to holding accelerate before hitting the ground. Electron Avenue is a good track to practice this with.
- the drop-slide tech on Roo's Tubes
this has already been patched out, and no longer works.
- boss garage entry skips
there is a way (not showcased in this run) to drive into the boss garage during the podium cutscene of the last race in a warp, which saves about 3-4 seconds.
- what is any%
timing starts when the character is selected, and ends when you cross the finish line beating Oxide in the final race. The goal of the run is to beat oxide as soon as possible.
