This video follows Yellowstone cutthroat trout on their journey from a beautiful, high-elevation mountain reservoir to a tributary stream for their annual spring spawn.
The cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii) is a member of the Salmonidae family and is native to tributaries of the Pacific Ocean, Rocky Mountains, and Great Basin in North America. The Yellowstone cutthroat trout is a subspecies that is native to the upper Snake River, Yellowstone Lake, and Yellowstone River, in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Cutthroat trout require cold, clear, and well-oxygenated water in relatively shallow rivers with gravel bottoms or cold, moderately deep lakes. They are beautifully colored fish and highly valued by fly fishers.
