Following the talks delivered by Dr Louis Teulières on recent conferences, here is an information point from PHELIX R&D and R.E.D. Laboratories on the development of the BORELLIA Phage PCR test. Good news, the test is now available to the public through R.E.D. Laboratories. Phelix Charity and Leicester University have developed a Borrelia Phage-based real-time PCR. Phages being an evidence of bacterial activity, this technology is an in-vivo amplification system for active infections. Borrelia phage-based qPCR test is a direct proof of an active infection, very specific and more sensitive than any current ELISA, Western Blot, PCRs. It can be used in controversial late stages of infection, and in early stages when antibodies are not present and LTTs non effective.
