I am Der Geher and I walk through Marmstorf. Starting at the Außenmühlenteich in the Harburger City Park, I walk past the Elfenwiese school towards the old village center with large thatched buildings. The path continues past many newer houses and ends at the Engelbek, a small river and adjacent marshland.
Traces of settlements in the area date back to the Iron Age. Especially the content of a warrior grave, which was found in 1954, is worth seeing and exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Hamburg. The village was first mentioned in a document from 1196 as a Saxon settlement. In 1814, during the French occupation, the occupiers burned down the village. And since 1937 the village has belonged to Hamburg as a district. Today, about 9,000 inhabitants live here.
