(11 Aug 2016) A forest fire that tore through houses and injured three people near the southern French city of Marseille was brought under control on Thursday, according to local firefighters.
Charles-Henri Garrier said that the fire was "not expanding anymore and there are no visible flames", but warned locals not to walk through scorched forest and churn up embers as this could restart the fire.
According to the firefighters, around 5000 acres (20.23 square kilometres) of vegetation have been destroyed by the fire mainly in the area of Vitrolles, Les Pennes-Mirabeau and Rognac, where the fire started before heading south pushed by a strong 'mistral' wind.
They also said that 35 houses had been destroyed in the fire.
