Ep. 38 SHELTER IN PLACE MOSAIC, another butterfly, an orchid, greaders, filati & a very Bad Cup!
Starting in my chilly garage studio, I show the Shelter in Place project with a butterfly mosaic as incentive!
Using black tinted fortified thinset, I break off chunks of asphalt for the back ground. It is a bit tricky to work with as it tends to crumble. I think it perfectly represents the media portrayal of "bad things" outside our bubble of safety. Using a lazy susan makes working on it easier! I use black Apoxie Sculpt to work on the beaded butterfly! Yea!
Then I show how I cut feather cuts out of stained glass for the mosaic orchid petals. I trim off undesirable bits. I have a lovely white and cream glass that gives me variety of color. Then I fill in the remainder of the flower with my new pieces.
BONUS: I show how I make my own GREADERS, sharing the process as it evolves. I end up completely deconstructing the $1 Dollar Tree readers and switch my adhesive to E6000. Once it sets up, I try them on and VOILA! I can see up close and keep my eyes better protected!
Next I pull some filati with my new greaders and make 5 filati color rings for The Ruins Project that Rachel Sager is hosting.
Last of all, I decide to make a "Bad Cup" for an exhibit at Spruill Center for the Arts called "Good Cup, Bad Cup." I test it out and YES! It is a very bad cup. It is entitled "Empty Conversations."
