In 2022, I got to tag along with Pat Casterline on his first ever mule deer hunt. Day 1 was a wash with terrible wind and rain. Throughout the night of day 1, the temperature dropped, we got a couple inches of snow and knew that today was going to be our best odds at finding a good buck with the snow on the ground. We started hiking early and covered a lot of ground and did a lot of glassing. After 3 miles we found a few bucks, and one really good one at 500+ yards. We made a game plan to get closer, snuck around and over the ridge we watched them go over, popped out and sure enough they bedded right over the top in a perfect spot for us to set up to take a 200 yard shot. Pat took his time and made a perfect shot on his first ever mule deer, which is a big one! We had a blast of a day, saw plenty of deer, and even filled the tag. We quartered and deboned the whole buck, caped it out, threw it all in our packs and had a 4 mile pack out back to the truck and made it back right at dark. We are super thankful for this buck, and most importantly, God's creation as a whole. It never fails to amaze me. I hope y'all enjoyed watching this video and I appreciate you watching! God bless y'all!
