I've experienced Melodifestivalen very differently this year compared to previous years. Since I'm apart of Swedish fan media with mine and my friends' podcast "Sa Du Schlager?!", I was given press accreditation and got to experience the songs and performances a few days earlier than most people! This doesn't affect my ranking much (if it has then it's positive, since all songs have received more streams overall), but it has been an extremely interesting experience and a dream come true for me.
This was a very strong year, yet I couldn't find a personal winner pick which is very strange. There are no songs that make me scream "YES, WE HAVE TO SEND THIS" unlike previous years, but the line-up has been very strong with good songs.
HOW ARE SONGS RANKED?
Songs are ranked on the likelihood of me listening to them. If I wanna listen to a song more, it means it's a good song to me.
I only base my rankings off of what I think of the song - not the artist. I could look up every individual artist to learn more about their personal life, but I don't have the time nor the energy to do that. All that matters is the song. For Eurovision, the country that sent the entry does NOT matter. No country is favored more than the other just because I like the country. I'm basing this only on the song and the artist/group performing it. Otherwise countries like Norway, Finland, Denmark, San Marino and Serbia would be ranked higher as I tend to like their songs more than other countries.
WHAT'S WITH THE COMMENTS?
I can have very strong opinions at times, but I've done my best to be as constructive as I can, and I've tried to point out something positive in each entry. None of my comments are meant as attacks towards the artists - all of the participants are talented and deserve lots of credit for making it this far! I'm sorry if any of my comments offend anyone, it is not my goal. My goal is to express my thoughts and potentially provide some insightful details that some people may not have noticed.
THE DISCLAIMER...?
It's there for a good reason. I've actually received death threats in the past for ranking someones favorite song low. Some discussions can get extremely heated and I don't want that on my videos. You're welcome to express your opinion and ask questions, but even if you disagree, being aggressive does not contribute anything to the discussion and only brings in negativity. You can't change someones mind by yelling at them, in fact it'll probably do the opposite. There are ways to have a conversation without yelling at eachother for thinking differently. Instead of saying "your video sucks, this song is a masterpiece and you're stupid", say "i love this song because of X and Y, why do you not like it?", or just give the video a dislike and move on to a different video.
WHO ARE YOU? (last updated March 2024)
I am a Swedish 27 year-old man who has followed Eurovision and Melodifestivalen for as long as I can remember, but my first memory is from 2002. I'm a member of OGAE Sweden and I even co-host a Swedish Eurovision podcast called "Sa Du Schlager?!" together with a few friends. I've been to several live shows of Melodifestivalen (and I'm also going to Malmö for Eurovision 2024) and I follow every national selection religiously every year. I was also apart of the press in Melodifestivalen 2024 and provided comments and news related to the contest. Alongside making videos on YouTube, I've studied to become a professional video editor. My hobbies include singing, sewing, playing video games (preferably older ones), collecting vinyl records and gardening. Music has a huge part in my life and I listen to it pretty much 24/7. Ever since 2018 I've released a weekly music chart every Monday on my Instagram titled the "Weekly Roundup", where I showcase my 7 most played songs from the previous week. I'm an all-eater when it comes to music. There aren't many genres I'm not a fan of, but pop music usually sticks to me very easily, along with the occasional rock song.
