Despite the passing of decades, the process of recovery and cleanup remains far from complete. The removal of nuclear fuel rods has posed significant challenges, and only recently has the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved Japan's plan to release treated water into the ocean, sparking widespread opposition and concern.
