Electric Vehicles are the best vehicles for Car-Camping and even short Overlanding trips (need proof, check out i1Tesla's new Overlanding rig), and in our experience, Tesla is way ahead of the game here. Over the last several years we've camped all over the west coast both in and on our Tesla and even made a trip to Banff with our Roof Top Tent on a Model 3 and with a bunch of options to make everyone comfortable, we're sharing our experience in hopes that we'll see more of you out there.
In our experience sleeping inside the car in with the AC maintaining a comfortable temperature in Camp Mode, we lost 30 miles of range overnight by not being plugged in. Consider charging prior to camping or camping at an RV site where you can plug in to prevent any issues. Finally, driving with a 100lb tent on top of the car reduced our effective range by 10-15% depending on speed.
