This video will showcase how to effectively utilize the Heavy Topspin DTL-FH and control the opportunity +1 shot after.
To address the obvious…. Yes, going DTL is a lower percentage ball in terms of margin for error and positioning after. However, these factors are negated/neutralized by a few factors:
1) The “Heavy” Topspin takes care of the height/margin for error.
2) The height of this ball allows for better positioning since it stays in the air and allows me to recover.
3) The opponents positioning is defensive as they receive this ball. They are likely moving backwards and will definitely have to hit this ball above their shoulders on the BH side.
Considering the above, this shot is a great way to mix up the point-pattern and create an opportunity from a safe, effective and relatively easy FH shot.
This shot is not for everyone and some may even disagree that this shot is not a good choice. However, there are many useful times to use it and it can prove quite effective when learned and used at the right opportunities. This video showcases just a few instances in which this shot can provide a lot of benefit.

[1] Push opponent into the RED zone of the court and force them to hit a ball at shoulder height.
[2] Hit a FH as the +1 SHOT with body positioning preferably in the YELLOW or GREEN zones of the court.
[3] If body positioning is in RED zone, hit a controlled NEUTRAL +1 SHOT.
