For a third day in a row, protesters took to the streets of Yangon, Myanmar, on February 8, to voice their opposition to a military takeover instigated on February 1.
This footage, by Koki Nakajima, shows crowds of people rallying in downtown Yangon.
Local news reports said protesters were calling for the release of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other elected officials who were detained following the military’s allegations of voting irregularities in a November election won by Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy.
The Myanmar Times said street protests first erupted on Saturday, February 6, with a small protest in front of Yangon City Hall.
This followed several days of at-home protests in which residents banged pots and pans every night.
