I’ll never see them the same again after noticing this 😳
The Magic Kingdom’s version of the Enchanted Tiki Room was very similar to the Disneyland version when it first appeared in 1971 as the Tropical Serenade. It changed when they added the Under New Management version in the 1998 and that is when it lost the enchanted fountain and some of the music. Disneyland is also missing one of its original songs, an Offenbach Barcarolle that was an instrumental piece. You can still hear that song, however, at the Tropical Hideaway in Disneyland.
While Marc Davis was the one who designed the tiki totem pole concept, much of the enchanted Tiki room. It was designed by Rolly Crump. He created all of the tiki gods in the preshow area of Disneyland based on a book called Voices on the Wind: Polynesian Myths & Chants by Katherine Luomala. Rolly also carved the original tikis himself as all of Blain Gibson’s sculptors were busy with other projects at the time.
Thanks @duckscardnest for pointing this fun detail out to me, I honestly had no idea about the teeth before they did!
