How to use the Petrucci Music Library (imslp.org) to find scores. Even if you can't read music, there are basic elements in the score that provide clues to how the music sounds.
Some things that can be spotted on the first page include: which instruments are playing, the tempo (speed of the beat), how fast the notes are moving, the direction of the pitches (up = higher, down = lower), the title, the composer, and the opus number.
Listening to a recording of the score will identify how well you interpreted the musical notation. Musicians and composers can "hear" the music in their heads by looking at the printed score.
