On August 20, 1968, the Soviet Union and other Warsaw Pact nations invaded Czechoslovakia to crush the ''Prague Spring'' liberalization drive of Alexander Dubcek's regime.
The invasion of Czechoslovakia by troops from the
Soviet Union and four of her Warsaw Pact allies has
shocked the world. But it was not quite the bloody
repetition of Hungary that many people at first feared,
due mainly to the astonishing Czech campaign of
passive resistance.
