10. Black Sapote

6. Chayote
It doesn’t look so appealing on the outside, does it? If anything it’s looks exceptionally for weird yet plain at the same time. That’s chayote, a type of gourd that has a starchy texture similar to that of a yam when cooked. When raw, it’s much crunchier and can be used in salads. The whole plant is edible, from its fruit to the root to the stem and seeds and even leaves.
5. Jaboticaba
This type of tree is considered a “slow growing” evergreen and if you came across this in the forest, you’d probably either be freaked or intrigued. Those black bulbs growing on the stree’s trunk and branches are the fruit. They can be eaten raw, but also prepared into juice, wines, or jellies. The small, thick-skinned purplish-black fruits grow to be between 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter with an stringent skin that feels a lot like a grape’s.
