An IUD or an intrauterine device helps prevent pregnancy by acting as a barrier and also releasing a small amount of hormone that affects the lining of the uterus. As soon as it's taken out you can get pregnant. It does not affect ovulation. You can ovulate while you're having an IUD but it just prevents pregnancy and you stop bleeding due to the hormones that are in the IUD. When you get the IUD taken out your periods will take maybe a month or two to become regulated and you may have what you feel like is a period or some irregular spotting and bleeding for a month or two and then they'll become regular to the point where you can track them if you're trying to get pregnant. You mentioned that you have PCOS and have had difficulty in the past getting pregnant. Because of your history I think it would be totally fine if you tried for six months and haven't had any success to talk to the doctor at that point. They could look into a few things, things that have to do with your health history, and maybe give you some guidance and direction based on that. Or maybe they'll just tell you to wait a few more months and keep trying. It's definitely worth talking to the doctor at that point. Generally speaking couples who have tried for a year without success definitely need to go see the doctor. Good luck.
