This is the last road bike of the Renshaw ‘Story Of My Bike, Pro Series' (but there is a track bike story yet to be told). This time Mark talks about what he raced in his neo-pro year, 2004. It was the year he contested the points race at the Olympic Games, and he was still very much a track specialist… but it heralded a new beginning for the rider from Bathurst.
In this video, we consider the Lapierre Ultimate Scandium bike: a mix of scandium and carbon-fibre, Renshaw couldn’t believe his luck when he received such a glamorous bike as a 21-year-old living in Bathurst.
The bike you see here was actually an end-of-season replacement as his original team bike got trashed by baggage handlers on his way back to Australia.
Renshaw’s first pro contract was with the FDJeux.com team that included four Australians that year: Brad McGee, Baden Cooke, the national road race champion of 2004 Matt Wilson, and first-year pro Renshaw.
