Since the Sri Lankan military retaliated against Tamil Tiger aggression in August 2006, many areas largely populated by Sri Lankan Tamils have been liberated from oppressive LTTE rule. In their retreat, the Tamil Tigers have sabotaged millions of dollars worth of civilian infrastructure including water supply systems, schools and hospitals to destabilize the region.
It has become painfully clear that over the last 7 years, the local staff of some 30 odd INGOs and NGOs that were operating in former LTTE areas had been forced to provide funds and material assistance to bolster the Tigers military installations at the expense of alleviating the suffering of the civilians residing in those areas. The Sri Lankan forces whilst fighting against
an uncompromising enemy have been careful in trying to avoid civilian casualties. The aim after liberation is to expedite the re-settlement of displaced civilians from conflict areas after de-mining; to introduce democracy into the region; and to usher in a massive structured development programme that will eventually bring these areas on par with the rest of the Island.
The talk of genocide is a mischievous lie, propagated by sympathizers of the Tamil Tigers to prevent the LTTE leadership from being captured in the ongoing military operation.
The Final Countdown is the final step to eradicate the terrorism that
has affected Sri Lanka for over three decades.
