Lelo was played in Georgia from ancient times. The playing area is the entire village of Shukhuti, Guria, western part of Georgia. The goal of lelo, a game that combines rugby tactics, is to fight for control of a 35 pound ball. There are no rules, but if a person falls, other players are expected to pause and help.
