Comment reconnaître un cuir finition aniline d’un cuir finition pigmentée ?

Comme expliqué dans notre article sur la finition, un cuir peut avoir plusieurs finitions : aniline, semi-aniline et pigmentée.

Mais il n’est pas toujours évident d’identifier la finition d’un cuir.
Nous vous partageons une méthode permettant de reconnaître le type de finition qui a été appliqué sur votre cuir : La technique de la dilution.

Reconnaitre la finition du cuir, notre méthode :

Rien de plus simple, munissez-vous :
- D’un récipient
- De solvant
- De votre morceau de cuir
- D’un carton plat
- D’un cutter

Ces différents éléments à votre disposition, commencez par plonger votre cuir dans le solvant.
Après quelques minutes, vous pourrez constater plusieurs réactions possibles en fonction de la finition du cuir.

Sur notre vidéo, nous réalisons le test sur des cuirs ayant différentes finitions : finition pigmentée appliquée au roller, finition pigmentée appliquée au spray et finition aniline.

- Test sur un cuir finition pigmentée appliquée au roller

Après quelques secondes d’immersion du cuir ayant une finition pigmentée appliquée au roller, vous pourrez constater l’apparition de bulles sur le côté fleur du cuir.
Après une minute d’immersion, vous pouvez retirer le cuir du solvant et le déposer sur le carton plat. La couche de pigments va alors se détacher complètement de la fleur du cuir.

- Test sur un cuir finition pigmentée appliquée au spray

Le test sur notre vidéo est réalisé avec notre cuir sellier Pykara, ayant une finition pigmentée appliquée au spray.
Après 1 minute d’immersion, le cuir peut être retiré du solvant et être déposé sur le carton plat. Munissez-vous du cutter et gratter légèrement le côté fleur du cuir. Vous pourrez constater des résidus de solvants sur la lame du cutter.

- Test sur un cuir finition aniline

Le test sur notre vidéo est réalisé avec nos cuirs selliers Niagara et Angel ayant tous deux ayant une finition aniline.
Après quelques secondes d’immersion du cuir dans le solvant, vous pouvez constater que la finition aniline dégorge dans le solvant, ce dernier prend en effet la teinte de la finition aniline.
Après une minute d’immersion, vous pouvez retirer le cuir du solvant et le déposer sur le carton plat. Grattez légèrement le côté fleur du cuir avec le cutter, et vous observerez que la lame du cuir est propre, aucun résidu de pigment.

How to recognize an aniline-finished leather from a pigmented-finish leather?

But it is not always easy to identify the finish of a leather.
We share with you a method to find out what type of finish has been applied to your leather : The dilution technique.

Recognizing the finish of leather, our method:

Nothing could be simpler, bring yourself:
- A container
- Solvent
- Strip of leather
- A flat cardboard
- A cutter

These different elements at your disposal, start by immersing your leather in the solvent.
After a few minutes, you will see several possible reactions depending on the finish of the leather.

In our video, we carry out the test on leathers with different finishes: pigmented finish applied with a rollerblading, pigmented finish applied with a spray and aniline finish.

- Test on a pigmented finish leather applied with a rollerblading

After a few seconds of immersing the leather with a pigmented finish applied with a rollerblading, you will see bubbles on the grain side of the leather.
After one minute of immersion, you can remove the leather from the solvent and place it on the flat cardboard. The layer of pigments will then come off completely from the grain of the leather.

- Test on a pigmented finish leather applied with spray

The test on our video is made with our Pykara saddle leather, having a pigmented spray-applied finish.
After 1 minute of immersion, the leather can be removed from the solvent and deposited on the flat cradboard. Take the cutter and lightly scrape the grain side of the leather. You may notice solvent residue on the cutter blade.

- Test on aniline finish leather

The test on our video is made with our Niagara and Angel saddle leathers, both having an aniline finish.
After a few seconds of immersing the leather in the solvent, you can see that the aniline finish disgorges in the solvent, the latter indeed takes on the color of the aniline finish.
After one minute of immersion, you can remove the leather from the solvent and place it on the flat cardboard. Lightly scratch the grain side of the leather with the cutter, and you will see that the leather blade is clean, no pigment residue.
