Everyone knows America loves hamburgers/hotdogs, Japan has their sushi, and Mexico is all about their tacos.
But what is COLOMBIAN food?
Today, we seek to answer that question by trying "BANDEJA PAISA", one of the most quintessential dishes of Colombian cuisine. It is a giant tray/platter of food consisting of many typical Colombian dishes including beans, chicharron, arepa and plantain. The name comes from "bandeja" which means tray or platter in Spanish, and "Paisa", the name given to the people indigenous to Northwestern Colombia.
While the chicharron and chorizo sausage were mind-blowing, the standout dish was definitely the kidney beans - soaked overnight and cooked with pork bones/bacon. We had never tasted anything like that before, even John who never eats beans in Singapore was wolfing it down!
