Tashi Lhunpo Monks | Chanted Prayers | Jamyang Buddhist Centre London
/ABOUT
Tashi Lhunpo monastery was refounded in South India after the Tibetans were forced to flee their homeland to keep their religious freedom. Here the special study, meditation, practice and artistic traditions of the monastery have been kept alive despite so few of the monks being able to escape to freedom.
Tashi Lhunpo was founded near Shigatse in the central Tibetan province of Tsang by the very first Dalai Lama, Gendun Drub. It became the monastic seat of one of the other high lamas of the Geluk tradition, the Panchen Lama, and was the centre of a unique and vibrant culture of spiritual development.
Unfortunately, the current recognised incarnation of the Panchen Lama was 'disappeared' many years ago at a very young age by the Chinese Communist Party and it is unknown today whether he is dead or alive.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been very supportive and encouraging of the monks to keep alive their vibrant practice traditions and they are deeply supportive of him.
