Natural disasters, climate change, failed harvests, a global pandemic…
For more than 40 years, IFAD has helped small-scale producers to earn decent incomes and feed their families in the face of shocks.
Now the war in Ukraine is causing another shock and is has led to a food crisis.
On May 11th the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) launched a Crisis Response Initiative (CRI) to ensure that small-scale farmers in poor countries most at risk of food insecurity can produce food over the next few months to feed their families and communities while reducing the threat to future harvests.
The war in Ukraine, which has pushed food, fuel and fertilizer prices toward record levels, has had a devastating impact on many poor small-scale farmers who can no longer afford to plant crops or tend their fields.
IFAD is calling on its member states to donate money to help fund this initiative.
