Giorgio Armani is considered one of the best-selling designers in the world and Italy's most glamorous luxury brand.

Giorgio Armani is one of a select few fashion designers that retain full control of their companies.

Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934.

He was born in Piacenza, Italy.

Giorgio Armani originally pursued a career in Medicine and studied for three years at the University of Milan, but decided to make a career change after some experience in hospitals and found a passion for photography.

In 1957 at the age of 23, Giorgio Armani was called to serve in the Italian armed forces.

When he returned from his service, he became a window dresser in Milan.

Next Armani took a job with the Cerruti fashion house, and designed clothes there from 1961 to 1970 for the "Hitman" line.

Giorgio Armani spent considerable time in England and his appreciation for the clean lines of British fashion were an inspiration when he founded his own label in 1974 as a menswear line.

The Italian fashion house Giorgio Armani S.p.A was founded by Giorgio Armani and his then partner Sergio Galeotti. Galeotti died of aids ten years later.

Armani and his sister Rosanna started the Armani womenswear line in 1975.

In 1980, Giorgio Armani began creating its own fragrances with L’Oreal.

The same year, Armani’s clothes appeared on Richard Gere in the iconic 1980 movie "American Gigolo". It began a long history of collaboration between Armani and filmmakers.

In 1981, Armani Jeans was launched to great acclaim.

Giorgio Armani won the 1987 CFDA International Award in 1987.

Armani broke into the American mass market in 1991 with A/X Armani Exchange.

In 2000, Armani started a makeup line. The same year, Forbes named Giorgio Armani as one of the world's most successful designers.

In the early 2000s, Armani expanded into home design with the launch of Armani Casa, leading a trend many other fashion designers would follow.

Likewise in 2005, he signed an agreement to build and operate at least 7 luxury hotels and 3 vacation resorts under the Giorgio Armani name, and the designer himself would oversee all aspects of interior design and style.

Today the bottom 39 floors of the famous Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai are home to an Armani hotel with 160 rooms and 144 residences. The hotel opened in 2010.

Giorgio Armani was voted GQ Magazine's Man of the Year in 2006.

Armani was the first to broadcast his couture show live on the internet, when the Armani Prive Spring/Summer 2007 collection was shown during Paris Fashion week on January 24, 2007.

Giorgio Armani continued to expand his brand with ventures in the fine dining industry. There are 14 Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans cafes worldwide, plus the Armani Bar in Hong Kong and two new Armani restaurants.

There is even an Armani confectionery company, Armani Dolci; an Armani florist, Armani Fiori; and an Armani bookshop, Armani Libri.

He was also the first designer to ban models with a BMI under 18 after a model died from anorexia.

Today the head designers are Giorgio Armani and Carla Fendi. The signature logo is Armani’s initials combined with an eagle.

Models George Alsford, Marikka Juhler are the faces of Giorgio Armani Fall 2014.

Emily DiDonato is the current face of Giorgio Armani fragrance ACQUA DI GIOIA.

Quvenzhané Wallis is the face of Armani Junior, making her the first major child celebrity to be the face of a luxury brand.

The Armani Group has more than 500 stores in 46 different countries.

Sophia Loren, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz are among Giorgio Armani’s biggest fans.

Armani has also designed stage outfits for Lady Gaga.
