The lack of light contrasted with the dim safelight, and the excitement of creating something out of nothing is thrilling. Every time, I check the timer on the wall and gaze into the faint red safelight in the stillness. When the timer hits 15 seconds, I see the faintness of an image in the developer.
After a 10-minute process of the developer, stop bath, fixer and wash, I can finally check my work under the bright lights outside. At that moment, I felt a sense of accomplishment and happiness that cannot express.
I am a stage director and scientist in the darkroom during the final stages of conceptualization. I create every detail that composes black and white photographs. I designate the subject, eject information through cropping, and control the aperture. These aspects of analog photography immerse me.
