"I am grateful to the European Union for its sanctions policy against the Russian Federation, which is very helpful in our struggle. Six packages of EU sanctions have become a tangible instrument of pressure on Russia during the war. However, the war, unfortunately, is still going on, so the seventh package of sanctions is needed. And it must become even more powerful. In particular, sanctions should be targeted at all Russian officials and judges working for the war and constantly working on repression. Furthermore, the European Union must completely block the activities of all Russian banks without exception, especially Gazprombank - one of the leading wallets to pay for the anti-European policy of the Russian Federation. Sanctions are also needed against all Russian companies that, in one way or another, help Russia, whether in the military sphere or the suppression of democracy, the suppression of freedom of speech. And, of course, the European Union, for its own benefit, must work much faster to abolish, altogether abandon, Russia's energy resources. This is a fundamental security issue for all, for Ukraine and every state of the European Union."

STORYLINE:
During a visit to Kyiv by the European Union's top official, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a new round of "even stronger" EU sanctions against Russia.
Speaking alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who was visiting Kyiv for the second time since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the sanctions the bloc had already put in place against Moscow.
"I am grateful to the European Union for its sanctions policy against the Russian Federation, which is very helpful in our struggle," he said.
"However, the war, unfortunately, is still going on, so the seventh package of sanctions is needed."
Zelenskyy called for the new sanctions to target more Russian officials, including judges, and to hamper the activities of all Russian banks, including gas giant Gazprom's bank, as well as all Russian companies helping Moscow "in any way."
He also urged the EU to "work much faster" to abandon its use of Russia energy resources.
The European Union in its last round of sanctions agreed to embargo most Russian oil imports into the bloc by year-end.
