Here we have the Japanese classic text The tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu in the Penguin Classics Deluxe edition series.
This unabridged edition is translated by Royall Tyler, and it contains maps, diagrams and line drawings. The book is bound in paper and it’s bound in a glued perfect binding. Calling this book a deluxe edition is rather misleading in my opinion. It’s a paperback bound in rather cheap material that easily get marks and other damage.
The binding is also glued which definitely is a negative, but since it’s a large book with many pages it opens up very well. The book has deckled edges on the paper, perhaps to give a more deluxe feeling but it really doesn’t help.
The paper is very smooth and cream coloured but it’s rather thin. The text size is also smaller than medium. Overall, the general layout of the text is good.
