So last chapter was a real tear-jerker! Yang! Cid! But I promise you, no one's really dead unless you actually see them blink on and off and then disappear. But still, it's as Kain said in the closing moments of the last chapter, "Everyone chooses death so hastily." or something like that...
The plan to steal the Crystals from the Tower of Babel was a total bust. By the time we got there, Rubicante, the final and most powerful Elemental Lord, had already taken them to the Overworld. He mentions that they just finished attacking the kingdom of Eblan and defeated all their ninjas. Moments before Cid takes the plunge, he tells us to go back to Baron and speak with his engineers. So, I guess we'll do that.
CHAPTER 12 - THE CAVE OF EBLAN
Back in Baron, nothing has really changed since the last time we were here. If you go up the stairs on the right-hand side of the... umm, lobby? you can talk to either of the two guys there and they'll mention that Cid wanted them to install something on the airship. It's a hook you can use to pick up the hovercraft (remember that?). When they're done, they mention that between the airship and the hovercraft, you should be able to go anywhere, including the Cave of Eblan, that leads to the Tower of Babel. Hint hint. So we'll pick up the hovercraft, which should still be right outside of Mt. Hobs and then take it to the continent/land mass located in the southeast.
Before we head to the cave, let's loot... err, I mean, let's respectfully tour the Castle of Eblan, which has indeed been obliterated and abandoned. There's plenty of treasures here, but really only one or two are worth getting, most notably the Blood Lance. Some of them are not obvious how to get them, so don't feel bad if you have to use this video for reference. If you go through everything, you should end up back outside and ready to head for the cave.
There's only one screen before reaching the Eblan settlement. That Ice Armor that I missed in the Tower of Babel is going to cost me! You can get one at the armor shop here for the princely sum of 35,000 Gil! Luckily, there's not much else we need here. If you ask around, the Eblan people will mention that the prince went ahead to seek vengeance for what happened to the King and Queen. A screen or two later, you'll see a door for a room with a save point. On the right-hand side of the room, there will be a secret passage leading to a treasure chest with the Blood Sword. Leave without saving/healing and go on ahead to watch Edge, the prince of Eblan face-off against Rubicante. You won't have to fight anyone just yet, so just watch the scene unfold.
Afterwards, Edge will join the party and you can proceed to the Tower of Babel. It's a good idea to go back to the save point room and heal/save. We really only have about five or six chapters left, so there's no rush. We'll fight Rubicante next time!
