Filmmaker Henry Ferrini uses the historic audio interview with french journalist Francois Postif's and players who knew Lester to create the movement for his new feature documentary on Lester Young. The interview taped in Paris just weeks prior to saxophonist's death forms the arc of the film and Mr. Young's life.
From his early childhood in New Orleans, Lester was obsessed with music. He traveled though the Jim Crow landscapes of the south with his father' s band honing his craft. The middle 30's saw his celebrity rise as featured soloist in the Count Basie Band. By mid-century poor health and alcoholism lead to his death overlooking New York's jazz mecca at age 49.
