Personal review of modern climbing” Highgrove” from @PeterBealesRoses
if you’re craving, Rich, deep velvety, decadent coloured rose , vigourous, healthy, disease, resistant, and tolerant of a poorer soil, climbing rose” Highgrove” maybe for you reaching around 8 to 10 feet tall and around 5 feet wide, it does best in full sun or west or south facing aspect.
Producing masses and masses of flowers from June, all the way through into October and possibly November
It has hugely glossy foliage, which sets off the deep, Rich crimson red blooms. Beautifully. The buds are short, dumpy and domed in shape and open to a deeply ruffled, but unfussy flower, with a surprising little white eye, which surrounds a golden cluster of stamens in the centre.
It’s habit is very upright, making it perfect for growing on a post or an obelisk as a standalone plant
Do beware it is laced with small clusters of sharp backward, facing barbs. There is a little or no sent.
