King Constantine II was born on June 2, 1940, in Athens, Greece, the eldest son of King Paul I and Queen Frederica. He had four siblings, Princess Sophia, Princess Irene, Princess Alexia, and Prince Nikolaos.
Constantine was educated in Greece and the UK, attending a prep school in Switzerland and later completing his education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. In 1960, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Greek Army. He then went on to serve in the Greek military during his reign as king.
In March 1964, King Paul I died, and Constantine succeeded him to become the last king of Greece. During his reign, Greece experienced a tumultuous period, including political instability and economic difficulties. In 1967, a military junta took control of the government, and Constantine was forced to flee the country with his family.
