Wind Challenger Project is the study which aiming at reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by using the wind energy. Installation of the hard sail system (Wind Challenger), a telescoping hard sail that converts wind energy to propulsive force, on merchant ships has the potential to significantly reduce fuel consumption, which in turn reduces the environmental impact of vessel operation while improving economic efficiency.
The vessel will be built at Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., with an eye toward 2022, when the world’s first next-generation sailing vessel equipped with Wind Challenger starts her voyage.
