PUERTO VALLARTA 5 DE DICIEMBRE WALKING TOUR | MALECÓN | BEACH| HOTEL PESCADOR | HILLS | SOLO TRAVEL
PUERTO VALLARTA 5 DE DICIEMBRE, the second oldest neighbourhood in Puerto Vallarta, begins at the north end of the Malecón. My walking tour shows you the Malecón, the 5 de Diciembre beach, beachfront Hotel El Pescador, and then I walk up Honduras street, from the beach into the steep hills, where luxury homes and condos abide.
This neighbourhood is called “5 de Diciembre” to celebrate the day the Mexican Government expropriated local lands from the mining company "Union en Cuale" in 1929, as part of a land grant to the farmers in Puerto Vallarta. This land grant allowed farmers to build their own homes and have their own land. Prior to this, farmers could not own land, and this “landlessness” was one of the reasons for the Mexican Revolution (1910 – 1920).
