In the past 12 days, 17 bridges have collapsed in Bihar due to rain. On July 3rd alone, five bridges fell into the river. This isn't an isolated event – over the past 50 years, 2,500 bridges have failed across India. NCRB data shows that between 2012 and 2021, 213 bridges collapsed, averaging 20 per year.
Tragically, incidents like these happen frequently. Bridges collapse, airport roofs cave in, and stampedes at religious events lead to many deaths, yet no one is held accountable. Last year, the Morbi bridge disaster in Gujarat killed over 140 people, but the main accused was granted bail. In Bhagalpur, Bihar, a bridge under construction with a budget of ₹1700 crore collapsed last June. No one has been punished.
