‘War Room’ to Hunt Bombers
The government has announced it has created a so-called ‘war room’ to track down whoever bombed the Erawan Hindu Shrine in the capital Bangkok. At least 19 people were killed and many more injured. The defence minister said that those responsible: "intended to destroy the economy and tourism, because the incident occurred in the heart of the tourism district". The Prime Minister has also called an emergency meeting with high-level government officials and military officers in charge of national security. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
No Plane Crash Survivors
Government officials have announced that all 54 people on board the Trigana Air flight that crashed have been killed. The plane went missing on Sunday in the province of Papua. Investigators have declined to comment on the cause of the crash until the results of the national transport safety committee are published… The operations director at Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency says there's a possibility the aircraft hit a peak and then crashed into a valley.
UNRWA Employees Protest
Hundreds of employees from the UN Relief and Works Agency in the Gaza Strip have protested against funding cuts to services provided to Palestinians. The UN body has warned that schooling for half a million Palestinian students across the Middle East could be delayed due to a funding shortage.The agency requires $100 million to begin the academic year in about 700 UN-run schools. Protesters held banners that read ‘education is a red line.’Schools are due to start at the end of August .
No Peace Deal for Kirr
The president of South Sudan, Salva Kiir has refused to sign a peace deal with his rival Riek Machar. The deal was proposed by regional leaders. He said the accord still requires more time. South Sudan, gained independence from Sudan in 2011. In December 2013, a political battle between Kiir and Machar - his deputy at the time - led to a civil war. Kirr has requested a two-week extension to go over the peace deal before returning to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa to finalize the accord.
