The first aid given for fracture patients. Any break in the continuity of the bone is called as fracture. fractures can be simple fracture or compound fracture. Simple fractures are nor associated with bleeding and external injuries and they are closed. Compound fractures are the ones caused by RTA and massive trauma and they are associated with bleeding at the site of the fracture and contamination at the fracture site. Immobilisation is the rule for fracture treatment but before that it is mandatory whether it is a closed fracture or an open fracture. If it is a closed fracture, then do not apply pressure bandages and call for help, that is 108, free ambulance services are available free all over India. If it is open fracture and bones pointing out of the skin into the open, then you have to be very careful. Please do not try to get the bone again into the skin. Let it be open. Just cover it with sterile cloth, put a splint bandage and call for help. In case the patient is in shock or not responding to your commands, then it is mandatory that you do not try and do anything to that person. Just give CPR and call for help. If the patient’s peripheries are numb, bluish in discoloration, it indicates that the person has had a vascular injury and that is an absolute emergency. Do not try to splint or anything as any movement in that type of injury is very painful and patient gets into further spasm because of the pain.
