Rapid and accurate testing for Sars-CoV-2 is essential for controlling the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19. The current gold standard is a naslopharangial swab but researcher led Dr. Anne Wylie in collaboration with Dr. Shelli Farhadian have identified saliva as a more reliable and accurate means of diagnostic testing. The potential impact of this sampling method could allow many more Americans to be tested for the coronavirus. Faculty across Yale, including at the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, School of Engineering & Applied Science and Faculty of Arts and Sciences are actively engaged in research, innovation, and clinical efforts to combat COVID-19.
